About This Spot

Stepping into Meier's Tavern feels like sliding into a comforting, well-worn storybook of a neighborhood bar—one where time moves gently, and familiar faces greet you with quiet warmth. The air hums with soft conversations and the steady clink of glasses, inviting you to settle in and leave the rush of the outside world behind. Here, the pace is unhurried, the ambiance rooted in old-school charm, and the lighting soft enough to enhance the sense of genuine connection among friends and regulars alike.

This is a place where the bar staff know more than just your drink—they know how your day has unfolded, welcoming you with a nod of recognition after a few visits. The décor speaks to a sense of history and steadfastness, embracing its dive bar roots with pride rather than polish. It’s in these quietly held traditions that Meier’s delivers its true appeal.

Whether you’re perched at the bar or tucked into a booth, the menu complements the feeling perfectly: straightforward, satisfying comfort food meant to be shared without fuss. Think burgers with just the right amount of char, golden onion rings that invite slow savoring, and crispy tater tots that have earned a local fan base all their own. The drink selection, ranging from classic drafts to carefully stirred cocktails, flows as easily as the conversations around you.

Meier’s Tavern isn’t about flash—it’s about the moments between the bites and sips, the familiar rhythms of a spot where you’re just as likely to find a quiet corner for reflection as you are to join a lively chatter among longtime patrons. It’s that rare blend of welcoming consistency and unassuming character that makes it a quietly cherished gathering spot on Glenview’s North Shore.

Meier is one of my favorite bars of all time. This place is so absolutely unique, not just with its old school decor, but with the amazing bar staff who have been with the establishment for years. Once you’ve been through the doors a couple dozen times, the staffers greet you, know your favorite drink and ask you how your day went. The menu is simple but the food is consistently good. And the Friday fish fry is second to none! If you favor Wisconsin supper clubs like I do, where people seem to know each other, the prices are very reasonable and the interior looks like something out of a time warp, I’d say Meier is your spot. Great place to watch games of any type as well, and be sure to check out the carolers and your favorite elf during Christmas-time!

lovely local place! enjoyed the vibe but the only downside was the older man we had as a bartender was very rude and made us feel a little unwelcome as first timers.

It’s perfect exactly the way it is. Don’t ask questions. Just enjoy the perfect north shore historic dive bar.

Wonderful local establishment. If you want a good hamburger, you’re at the right spot. Laid back atmosphere with “old school” charm. Go hang out for a bit with your friends.

Excellent dive bar! Something about pairing big mugs of beer with fried food is just heavenly! I recommend getting the onion rings! Those are ALWAYS satisfying: fried perfectly! Our waitress was Marge and she was awesome! All of the bartenders are awesome and the beer is cold! What more can anyone ask for?
